Coatham

Heading back towards the clubhouse, with Redcar and the Saltburn Cliffs beyond, Coatham begins a demanding stretch of five consecutive par 4s. Like many of the holes on the inward nine, the spire in the distance often provides an excellent visual guide from the tee. The fairway sits slightly across the player's line of play, and players should resist the temptation to bite off more than they can comfortably handle from the tee. Two bunkers positioned on the right-hand side of the fairway are the key hazards and must be avoided to set up a clear approach into the green. The green narrows as it extends from front to back, placing a premium on accuracy with the approach shot. While the front portion offers a more generous target, shots played towards rear pin positions require greater precision to find and hold the putting surface.
